Residence application status

If the checking page shows “en trámite”, this means that the residence permit is in the process of being approved. But is it normal for a residence permit to remain en trámite for a long time without any news from the immigration authorities? We will explain this today.

It has been a long time since I submitted my application for residency, but I haven’t heard anything from the immigration authorities, and I’ve checked on the Internet, but I’m still in a state of en trámite, so what should I do in this case?

First of all, it is important to understand that each type of residence application has different requirements and conditions, which naturally lead to different approval periods. In addition, the workload and manpower allocation of each local immigration office is different, which will also affect the approval time. If there is a long vacation, the approval time will also be extended.

The length of time it takes for a residence permit to be approved based on our experience range from 3 to 6 months. Some provinces are much quicker than others.

Note: If you have made up documents during this period because they are incomplete, this will also slow down the process.

What should I do if I haven’t heard anything after submitting the documents for a long time?

If it has been more than the usual standard time since the date of submission, you should actively go to the immigration office and ask if everything is fine. Often times, the approval process is stalled because the documents are not complete. Although the Immigration Office will send a letter requesting additional documents, the correspondence is very slow and only slows down the process. And sometimes, the Immigration Bureau will not even notify you to fill in the documents, but just suspend the approval, waiting for you to take the initiative to negotiate. In some cases, the application for residency has even been archivado.
