Labor contracts in Spain are generally divided into temporary contracts (contrato temporal in Spanish), and indefinite contracts (contrato indefinido o fijo in Spanish). “). A temporary contracts is one that has a certain duration. A indefinite contracts contract is one that has no expiration date and the employee can work indefinitely in the company unless being dismissed.
Under current labor law, the default contract type to be signed must be indefinite while temporary contracts are only intented for some justified cases. This is to protect employment stability.

The treatment negotiated between the employer and the worker and the basic working conditions must be written in the contract. The Spanish Ministry of Labor has developed a work contract template for your convenience. The template can be downloaded from the Internet and can be filled in by yourself if you have basic Spanish. After filling it out, the employer and the employee need to sign it. The effective date of the contract is freely negotiated between the two parties.
