Today we would like to explain to you what to do if the status of your residency approval appears “inadmitido a trámite”.
When checking the status of the residence permit online, the most common types of status are as follows
- En trámite: This means that your residence is in the process of being approved, please be patient.
- Resuelto – Favorable: indicates that the residence permit has been approved, please wait patiently at home for the letter. A
- Denegado or Resuelto – No favorable: indicates that the residence permit has been denied.
- Archivado: Indicates that the residence permit has been filed.

What does inadmitido a trámite mean?
In addition to the above, another uncommon situation is “inadmitido a trámite”. This means that the immigration office has refused to accept the application. A refusal is not a denial of the application, it is a decision by inmigration office not to review your documents in the first place. Why does this happen? The most common reason is that the residence permit has expired for a long time. You should know that Spanish law states that you cannot apply for an extension if your stay has expired for more than 3 months. O
